Neymar responds to legal woes in Instagram post

Barcelona forward Neymar has used an Instagram post to apparently address the latest attempt by Spain s public prosecutor to seek a jail term in relation to his controversial transfer from Santos.

On Wednesday, Judge Jose Perals requested a two-year sentence and a €10million fine for Neymar and his father, along with the same fine and a one-year prison term for his mother, on the grounds of alleged corruption in the Brazil captain s 2013 move from his homeland to LaLiga.

The case stems from a complaint by investment group DIS, which owned 40 per cent of Neymar s economic rights and claims it received less money than it was entitled to following the transfer.

Neymar played in Barcelona s 2-0 win over Celtic later on Wednesday, where a Lionel Messi brace secure…

Everton v Liverpool: Rodgers buoyed by form ahead of Merseyside derby

Brendan Rodgers says Liverpool will go into Saturday s Merseyside derby against Everton full of confidence following an upturn in fortunes.

Liverpool and Everton contest the 224th Merseyside derby at Goodison Park on Saturday, with visiting boss Brendan Rodgers delighted to have seen his team turn a corner of late.

Rodgers men have taken 16 points from their last six Premier League outings and booked their place in the FA Cup fifth round with a last-gasp 2-1 victory over Bolton Wanderers in midweek.

The Anfield outfit have not lost the derby since 2010 but were denied victory in this season s reverse fixture by a late Phil Jagielka thunderbolt.

With Rodgers side eager to maintain upward momentum against their near-neighbours, the Liverpool boss talked up …

Lokomotiv Moscow sign N´Doye

Lokomotiv Moscow have signed Senegalese striker Dame N Doye from FC Copenhagen for an undisclosed fee.

N Doye, 27, is seen as an ideal candidate to strengthen Slaven Bilic s side s striking options, and had previously been in negotiations with Trabzonspor over a transfer to replace the departing Burak Yilmaz.

It s a bit of a fairytale ending here, Copenhagen sporting director Carsten Vagn Jensen told the club s official website. It was a long road to recognition and honour for N Doye.

Nevertheless, we will remember him for the (three consecutive Danish) championship victories, qualification for the Champions League, and the top scorer title he earned in his time here.

We will remember N Doye for the great deal of effort he put in during this great pe…

Gerrard: Winning title would be a ´miracle´

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard admits he needs a miracle to lead his side to an English Premier League title before the end of his career.

The Anfield giants finished second in 2008/09 with a points total of 86 that would have won the league in several other seasons, but have never come as close in Gerrard s tenure as skipper.

With the Manchester clubs and Chelsea all strengthening in the off-season, the 32-year-old realises his hopes of bringing the title to Merseyside are unlikely to happen, especially with other up-and-coming rivals also hungry for success.

It will be a miracle if I now realise my dream of winning the title with Liverpool, he wrote in his recently published autobiography My Liverpool Story.

I say that because of my age and where w…

FIFA confirms ongoing proceedings against Blatter, Platini & Valcke

FIFA s Ethics Committee has confirmed proceedings are ongoing against Sepp Blatter, Michel Platini and Jerome Valcke, with a verdict targeted before their 90-day provisional suspensions are over.

FIFA president Blatter, UEFA counterpart and FIFA presidential candidate Platini and general secretary Valcke were handed provisional 90-day bans on October 8.

Blatter is accused of making a disloyal payment to Platini in 2011, as well as negotiating an unfavourable television contract involving former vice-president Jack Warner. Valcke has been accused of misusing expenses and other infringements of regulations. All three deny any wrongdoing and have appealed.

Those sanctions can be extended by up to 45 days, which effectively ends Blatter s reign over world football wi…

Ex-WADA president Pound criticises FIFA

Former World Anti-Doping Agency president Dick Pound has questioned the lack of transparency at FIFA under Sepp Blatter.

Blatter is serving a 90-day suspension that could be extended by up to 45 days, which would effectively end his reign over world football with the FIFA congress to replace him scheduled for February 26 next year.

That sanction came following an investigation into Blatter s conduct relating to allegations that he signed an unfavourable contract with the Caribbean Football Union in 2005 that market experts claim handed over World Cup television rights for a fraction of their market value.

He is also accused of making a disloyal payment in 2011 to UEFA president Michel Platini, who is serving the same punishment.
