Goals from Khampheng Sayavutthi and Keoviengphet Liththideth had given Laos a 2-0 lead before Shahril Ishak pulled a goal back for Singapore on the stroke of half-time.
Shahril equalised and Radojko Avramovic s side went 4-2 up after goals from Khairul Amri and Fazrul Nawaz.
Sayavutthi pulled one back after 81 minutes but it was not enough as Singapore held on.
