Looking to extend on their recent charge for Ligue 1 safety, Lyon will travel to the Stade Oceane when they meet Le Havre on Sunday afternoon.
Starting with the hosts, while Le Havre might have opened the New Year holding a five-point buffer from slipping into the relegation play-off spot, Luka Elsner’s side signed off 2023 in the midst of a real struggle. Although the Dean Club might have extended on their Coupe de France adventure last week as they snatched a 2-1 victory against second-tier outfit Caen, the Normandy-based outfit have won just a pair of their previous 11 straight Ligue 1 appearances. With that extended crisis stemming all the way back to a 2-1 win against Clermont back on September 24th, Le Havre will at least take some solace from their rugged performances on home soil. Springing a real upset last month as they stormed their way to a 3-1 romp against Champions League dreamers Nice, Elsner’s side have lost just one of their last five domestic showdowns at the Stade Oceane.
As for the visitors, although Lyon might still find themselves at the heart of an infamous Ligue 1 relegation scrap, Les Gones have certainly breathed life back into their charge for top-flight safety. In fact, along with extending on their Coupe de France adventure last week as they stormed to a routine 3-0 romp away at lower-league outfit Pontarlier, the mood in their camp should be at a season-high. Breaking their way out of the drop zone, the French heavyweights have won all of their previous three Ligue 1 appearances on the bounce. With their recent turn in fortunes highlighted by a 3-0 victory against Toulouse on December 10th, Lyon will be calling on attacking talisman Alexandre Lazazette to spearhead their charge on Sunday lunchtime. Along with bagging a hat-trick against Toulouse last month, the former Arsenal skipper has now notched five goals in his last four appearances across all competitions.
Bet: Over 1.5 goals at Le Havre vs Lyon 2/5 for Sunday s Ligue 1 matchup @
